A couple of weeks ago I made a big announcement about a new business plan my friend Lindy & I recently launched. And let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride.
First off, we’ve had some major successes in developing a product line that we are completely smitten over! In fact, it takes a lot of self-control not to keep every single item for ourselves. But hey, I think thats a good problem to have. And I just realized that I’ve been so busy showing off all of our great products on Instagram that I haven’t shared any updates here. Well sit back and get ready for updates. There’s a lot going on and I’m excited to share.
On May 15th we launched a crowdfunding campaign through Indiegogo. (CLICK HERE to view the campaign). This campaign is designed to help us raise funds to open up our shop in the form of selling our products and we want to give you an opportunity to buy into our vision with the purchase of something you love from our shop, it’s called a “perk.” All of the funds raised through this campaign will help us cover some of our bigger start up costs that are eating away at our pockets… such as getting into our new studio, painting and furnishing it, and purchasing all of the necessary tools and supplies to begin hosting our classes.
On that note, I wanted to try and clear up any confusion between the “shop” and the “classes.” Our vision with The Classroom Collective is to host and teach artisan/Pinterest style classes as well as host a part time, pop-up brick and mortar shop. The reason for adding the shop into our business plan is two-fold. First, this allows us the opportunity to generate extra income to put toward class materials and supplies. Second, as we develop product, we are able to come up with ideas and techniques for the classes we’d like to teach. In fact, all of our products are a representation of the types of classes we plan to offer. Another part of our vision down the road is to invite other artists/makers to come into our space and teach a class on their skills because we don’t only want to teach, we want to learn right alongside you.
Our mantra has been to “cultivate creativity and connect community.” We want to foster an environment where people are inspired to create something wonderful, and connect with new and old friends. This isn’t necessarily a space to train up experts, but rather to allow anyone to explore new creative outlets, just for the sake of creating.
We are officially on day 14 of our crowdfunding goal and with the help of 25 contributions, we’ve hit 44% of our goal! That my friends is an incredible number and I’m overwhelmed by the support that has been displayed so far! There is almost nothing more terrifying than sharing your your dreams and passions with world, in hopes that they will like it. ALMOST nothing. EXCEPT, asking for people to help fund this dream and make it a reality. Holy smokes, I’m just going to be open for a moment and say I don’t know if I’ve ever felt so anxious in my life. This business is so personal to me, and I can’t help but look at those numbers as an indicator of how people feel about my passion. On one hand I see an overwhelming amount of support and on the other hand I see a 56% chance of failure, or even worse, disapproval. Now I know that we still have 18 days to go and we are right on track to hit our goal. So that’s the hope I’m clinging to!
Before I wrap up here I also wanted to let you know about a couple big events coming up!
On June 9th, some creative friends of ours are launching an InstaMeet. What’s an InstaMeet you ask? Simple, it’s where Instagram friends meet in real life! Our new studio is hosting this InstaMeet and we are so excited to give people a little sneak peek of whats coming up!
On June 13th we are hosting our GRAND OPENING! We are in the process of fine tuning all of the details for this day and I’ll share all about it soon. Be sure to mark your calendar for June 13th and plan on stopping by for a good old time and some great shopping! We’ll be open from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
In conclusion, I want to share with you a few ways you can HELP (in no particular order).
1.. You can purchase “Classroom Credits” through our campaign. This allows you to apply any “credit” that you’ve purchased to any of our 2015 classes or shop merchandise.
2. You can rent our studio: One of the things we love most about our space is the beautiful directional light coming from our windows (Great for photographers who need an indoor place to shoot! + the studio walls are WHITE!). We are also in the process of building ourselves a 14 foot community table! This is perfect for renting out the space to host workshops, private events, or even company meetings. 3. If you aren’t able to contribute financially but you still stand behind our vision and want to help out, we would absolutely love for you to spread the word in any way you can! The best way for us to meet our goal and get this business rolling is to have people talking and sharing about it!
